The Future is Not What it Used to Be
Through TCU Illustration class, we were assigned to create a piece with the title "The Future is Not What it Used to Be" and could either depict a utopia or a dystopia.
The word "future" immediately reminded me of past's takes on the future, like The Jetsons and Back to the Future. The Jetsons appears utopian to me because it was created in a simpler time, even though it was set in the future. I wanted to create an image of the future that was set in a style of the past. We've seen this concept before, for example in the movie Her, directed by Spike Jonze.
I chose a mid-century color pallet and shapes nostalgic of the mid-century not only because I was inspired by The Jetsons, but also because I strongly admire mid-century characteristics (even the bad ones).
